so busy with so little to show for it

11-9-09

I need about 3 more hours of sleep. I think I slept ok, aside from only being comfortable for about an hour at a time. I am thinking that as soon as the weather gets colder, I will stand a better chance at staying content longer in the evening. We got an awesome new comforter that is the fuzzy micro fleece that is super soft and cozy. And its pretty! So as much as I enjoyed curled up in it last night, it may still have been too hot.

I accomplished very little of what I wanted to do this weekend. It means that this week I need to step it up and get to work on operation get ready for Christmas Decorations. Plus, my house needs to be ready for Chris, who will be house and dog sitting for us. I want to make sure he doesn’t have mess to deal with.

Saturday morning was Gore’s going away party. It was hectic, but fun. The boys and I arrived a little before 9 (Ken had Catholic training, which basically was a class for instructors of the catholic school to explain to them that touching the kids is wrong) and we walked over to Anderson Park. They had re-done the playground, which seemed odd since they had re-done it fairly recently.

The new structures were nice. The best part was that they put this little drain groove in the slides so that water would no longer pool at the bottom of the slides. There were some random new kinds of play things, but the old standards are what the boys enjoyed most. We hung out there for about an hour and then walked back to my parent’s house.

There, we decorated visors, played put the truck in Gore’s pocket (think pin the tail on the donkey but with a small tractor as the tail and a pair of jeans on an inflatable monster as the donkey). The boys each got to decorate a “Gore Cake”. Bobby put at least a half a bottle of red sprinkles on his, along with the other crap. Let’s just say when I took the cakes home, the plate the squished on top of the cake did not get any frosting on it because of the sprinkles buffer.

We had dancing with Gore. My mom had prizes for all the games. One of the prizes was these paint with water pictures, so the boys did that for a while, too. We had some lunch, and then the boys rode their bikes for a while. My mom had made them robot costumes, but we didn’t get a chance to do those since by about noon the boys were wiped out (and border line cranky), so we decided to do the costumes on Friday.

I got the boys home where Dax crashed quickly. Bobby never fell asleep, but had some quiet time. Ken got home not long after me, but then went out to Calabasas to help on a Lego tournament. I wasn’t thrilled, but it wasn’t like we had any real plans that I could tell him not to go. I hate this time of year because he does so many of these tournaments, but they are all volunteer. I know, I should be nothing but proud of him for basically volunteering to help out kids on this stuff. But in reality, I often feel neglected since there are plenty of things I would like him to do at the house. That being said, I try to not be such a pill about the whole thing and I deal.

I told Bobby to come out of his room and told him he could watch Wall*E as long as he stayed quiet since Dax was still sleeping. This was a good arrangement so I could work on some cleaning and still hang out with the kid.

Dax got up and we all went out back to play. I sat out on a chair and thumbed through my magazine while the boys and the dogs played. It was relaxing, actually. The boys didn’t really play with me, but they just liked that I was sitting with them. So they played in the sand box and managed to get filthy! LOL!

I went in and ordered a pizza online. My timing all worked perfectly since I had the boys clean up the back with the perfect amount of time where when they came in, the pizza was just arriving. The boys had been so good all afternoon, I made them milkshakes to go with the pizza, and we watched more of Wall*E with dinner. It was great!

The boys had showers and we got ready for bed and then all watched Blue’s Clues together. Ken showed up right at the end of the Clues, so he was able to be there in time for story time.

Sunday morning was bowling. A pretty good morning of it, too. Matt wasn’t picking too many fights (either that or I am getting way too good at ignoring it) and the boys were in great moods. I bowled like shit, but if that is the worst thing that happens at bowling, I will so take it!

We had some errands to run which included Target for Lego, PetSmart for puppy pads, and the grocery store for, well, groceries! Got home where the boys napped hard for like 2 plus hours, which allowed us to just vege out. Yes, I should have been working on my projects, but I was feeling lazy. Instead, we watched Zack and Miri make a porno. We didn’t get through all of the deleted scenes. There was like an extra movie’s worth of them!!

Got the boys up (they had been sitting in their room once they woke up and didn’t bother to come out). We played outside for a bit, and then it was family walk time. Man is that exhausting. Especially since Dax woke up uber cranky.

We BBQed some steaks and ribs and the boys played. It makes me realize exactly how much we need some outside lights in the yard.

Dax was having some problems getting comfortable last night. It took him a bit to get settled, and I am pretty sure he was up with Ken after I fell asleep. His chin hurt, which is from this scratch he got when he fell about a week or so ago. The scab had been itchy, which means he has been scratching it, which of course, hurts it more. He was complaining about his leg since Friday, which makes me wonder if he twisted it somehow when they were playing at McDonalds. Either way, poor kid was feeling rough.

We are actually going to go to a party together! Ken and I were invited to Mileena and Ari’s birthday party in a couple weeks. Lucky for us, despite the fact that my parents are going out of town the next morning, they are going to let the boys stay the night which will allow us to go to the party together. It will be a busy day, what with me going to a 1 year old’s birthday party that afternoon. Plus, I think Ken has a tournament, so I am taking the boys by myself. Yie! We will manage.

I have a bunch of work I need to tend to this morning. I suppose I will do that now so I don’t end up getting some project and then I would be swamped!

Oh Oh Oh!! I can’t believe I forgot to mention this!! Andy ended up getting us all rooms at one of the Disney hotels for Wednesday night. This new arrangement not only get us there so we don’t have to leave super early, it lets us in the park early. And the best part??? We get breakfast with the characters!! Yes, the boys are going to get to meet Mickey or one of the others (I guess there are like 5 rooms, one has princesses, but the others have the other main guys). I am telling you, I almost teared up when I just heard the Disneyland commercial on the radio that played It’s a Small World because I am so freaking excited. Not only is it Disneyland, one of my favorite places in the world, but Christmas time. Holy crap, I can die happy after that day. I so can’t wait to take the boys to all the different fun things. So excited!!

The plan tomorrow is now I am taking the day off and Ken and I are going to work on some house projects. Good deal! It is a tossup between working on the bathroom or the entry way. We may be able to do both since the bathroom work we would be doing is just painting. Then maybe a quick trip to get some boxes and then we can box up the bookshelves. I would like to bring my giant cedar chest into the house to be the costume trunk now that we have gobs of costumes, but I don’t have a place for it. But maybe we can figure that out. Woo hoo!

I have some melancholy feelings this morning. A few things triggered them, and I am pretty sure my monthly friend is having way too much fun at my expense. LOL! Despite the strange wave of sadness, I also feel quite happy, so really, it is an odd combination for me.

I know Luna has grown since we got her. She had a hard time fitting under the wooden firetruck that is in the living room this morning. LOL!

I had a mini identity crisis yesterday (which seems to be carrying over into today). This chick at the store had the cool jet black hair, fully tatted out, and this beautiful little girl. She was the cool rock mom that even though I don’t have enough coolness to be rock, I would like to think of myself as not the standard Donna Reed mommy. Yet as Ken pointed out, even though yes, I was rocking my silly visor that had Mom emblazoned on the rim and I was looking all frazzled, I looked like a good mom. He pointed out that people judge wrongly when they see someone like her compared to me. Part of me wants to be judged based on that. Part of me just wants to be a good mom. Just feeling out of sorts, too much time in my head this morning. I will be ok.

Thank goodness I see rain in the forecast. I hope it is a cold rain. I hope it is a heavy rain.

It cracks me up that there is a patent pending on this container I have for my lunch. It is crappy Tupperware that our Chinese food place gives us food in. It is super cool that they are reusable containers, but seriously, is there a patent needed for something that basically has been around forever, and is done much better with the existing patents?

As a side note, when you are a company that just let go half its staff, do you really not only hire some chick as the new executive Admin assistant, but you point out she is a certified yoga instructor and a professional chef? Shoot, might as well tell us she also will be massaging you.
