Yet another day. I don’t mean to sound so grumpy, but I am tired, still sore, and a little off right now due to work.
On Friday, not long before I left, I got called up by one of the higher ups who needed some info on policy. I gave her the info I could, telling her that really, the topic at hand was not set as any kind of real policy. It is a case by case basis. Turns out, I had changed the date on something, I have no idea why I did since it was like 3 months ago, and it wasn’t a normal thing. I told her this, and told her we should make some changes so whatever I did can’t be done. Mind you, I am not the only one who has made these changes, but I hate it when I feel like I am in the hot seat. I doubt I am in “trouble” but it still sucks since now I am waiting around for my boss to “talk” to me about it. So annoying.
Other than that, I had a good weekend. Friday night, I went and worked out, which shockingly really helped my back. I think it was stretching me out, which is what I needed. Although, the most amusing part of the evening was at one point when Ken and Bobby were discussing Star Wars. Bobby decided that he was Darth Vader and Ken was someone else. Ken tells him that really, it should be that Ken was Darth Vader and Bobby should be Luke Skywalker. Bobby didn’t understand why. So Ken tells him that Darth Vader is Luke’s father. The scream of “Noooooooooooooooooo!!!” that came out from Bobby was awesome and you would almost think that he was reenacting the scene from the movie. Priceless.
Saturday was beautiful out. We didn’t have a huge crowd. In fact, it was just my folks and brother, but still, it was good. We BBQed burgers and hot dogs, had cake, and the boys entertained us with their running around. It was great! I know that this summer I am going to spend just about every day outside. With the BBQ and just the set up, it is a perfect backyard.
We grilled around 11, but at about 4 I noticed that the grill was still on. I opened it and found that we had forgotten a couple of hot dogs and a couple of burgers. Although yes, the burgers were hockey pucks at this point, the dogs were scary. It looked like they exploded and then the explosion cooked around them. It was kind of cool, actually.
This left over meat caused a problem, though. I guess the burgers dripped enough juice that when we turned on the grill 30 later, it became a fire storm in there. We started up the grill to cook a couple of hot dogs for dinner. I walked outside to check on the kids and I see fire shooting out of the back of the grill. I calmly turn to Ken who was in the kitchen and say, “That can’t be good.” Hot dogs were toast. It was funny, but clearly we needed to clean off the grill before any more cooking would be happening.
Ken and I did movie night on Saturday and Friday. We watched Tropic Thunder and The House Bunny. Both were funny, with Tropic Thunder being better. But both were kind of slow and not ones I need to see again for a little while. Tom Cruise in Tropic Thunder was awesome. And Robert Downey JR rules all. I don’t remember the next two in route. I think Hamlet 2 is on the list, so I am jazzed.
Sunday was lazy. The boys played out back, and Ken modified this screen door we have so that we could put it on the back door. I was so thrilled at this! I like that the boys can play out back without constant supervision. But I do like to have the door open so I can hear them. Well, the cats keep thinking when the door is open they should also go outside. I am not as ok with this, so really a screen door is what we need. It is awesome now that we have the screen. When you leave that door open, it makes a wonderful breeze through the house. I know that this summer, we will be able to keep the house nice. I would like to put one on the door that leads outside from our bedroom, but that will have to wait for now.
I had Tivoed a new movie for the boys. I knew that Bobby was getting old enough to actually appreciate some live action flicks. So I taped Shark Boy and Lava girl. It was the holy grail of tv for that kid. He sat motionless through the whole movie, clearly concerned when the hero was in trouble, and the best part was at the end when he actually broke out into applause when they defeated the bad guy. He shouted all excited, “He did it!” referring to the chick who zapped the bad guy away. It was so cute! He talked about them at bedtime, too. So cute. So I guess I have a new set of things to introduce him to.
I am still super sleepy, and kind of drugged from pain meds, so I don’t have the energy to write. I may try later.
