Aw, Shucks

1-10-13

This person has gone 1 day with no new injuries.

Dax was feeling surly late afternoon, what with me having taken away a lot of their play time because of their insistence at dinking around during homework. I was herding them towards their bedroom so they could get ready for a bath. Dax was whining and complaining, with me mocking him fully with everything from song and dance to outright mimicking him. He then proceeded to shove me in anger. It was one of those awesome moments in parenting that I will remember forever. He instantly started apologizing. I had not even had a chance to react. I wasn’t upset, but I did growl out some orders for him to strip down, all the while listening to him scream, “I’m sorry mom!” I shuffled him to the waiting tub where he continued to apologize, yet try to insist on no bath. I practically tossed him in, and told him to sit and wash himself. I was eerie calm at this point, which always seems to wig them out quite a bit. I told him to stop apologizing and that I wasn’t angry. I just needed him to bathe. He calmed down and I went in to check on Bobby. He was about to go into the bathroom to join his brother when he looks at me with all seriousness and says, “Mom, I learned something today. Don’t ever mess with you.”

I win.

The aforementioned dinking was one of their more spirited attempts at delay tactics for homework. Bobby had double work to do, what with the previous day having been spent at Ken’s class. I sat in the playroom and finished going through all of the books, compiling the overflowing crate of books to donate this weekend. I managed to do some weight lifting and even some sit-ups while in there. I even cleaned the light fixture after noting how dirty it was since I was on the ground looking up for my sit-ups.

Dax seemed to be distracted by everything from a pencil to air. He is normally much better about getting his work done, but he just wasn’t having it. Bobby did actually work harder than normal, but being that he had so much to do, even the slightest delay ended up causing the total homework time for him to be2 hours. At one point, after I had done all I could do in that room, I had them come to the living room and finish so that I could scan in the most awesome old computer book ever.

During all of this, I was surprised at how happy I remained. Sure, I had to bark at them several times, but I also was busting out into song randomly and kept my head about me. I was proud of myself. Even with all the griping from the boys, there was twice as much laughing from them. They especially enjoy when I start talking in probably the worst English accent ever. Dax said I sounded like the guy from Night at the Museum who was the boss. He actually said I sounded like Ricky Gervais! I was quite pleased.

I have so much to do this afternoon. I will have homework packets to make while still cracking the homework whip. In addition to that, I need to prep the budget numbers for AYSO. Luckily that shouldn’t take too much, but it is still something that needs to be done. It is board meeting night. I call it bored meeting night. Bleah with the process. Let me just cut and sign checks and I will be your treasurer forever.

I thought it was cute when Mr. Williams told me yesterday that he saw my name in the paper. I was a little concerned at first, what with me wondering if perhaps it was not a good thing, but he told me over the holidays he was catching up on old papers and saw my letter to the Daily Breeze about the lockdown the school had some months back. He said it was annoying on that day since even he was trapped in the school while it was going on. Thankfully, it was not too long.

Ok, Huell Howser died. I have to say, I don’t know him. I have seen all these tributes and people saying how they will miss him. I have now heard some of his work. What the fuck people????? He was horrible! The people who liked him are the same folks who like that damn Prairie Home Companion fucktard Garrison Keeler. I do not care for either of their “aw, shucks” bullshit. Sheesh!

I am going to make a point of drinking 5 cups of green tea a day. I usually polish off 2 or 3 while I am at work, but I had read somewhere that 5 is the optimal number to get the best health benefits. I am down with that. It does mean I am considering getting one of the Keurig machines for home. Yeah, I know tea bags work just fine, but I like that the tea is still so hot while already brewed. I wonder if there is a better way to keep it hot while brewing.

I also am hoping that Ken can hit up Costco soon so I can get supplies for chicken noodle soup. I love making a huge batch since it allows me meals for a couple weeks. With it being super cold this weekend, a pot of soup may be a nice thing!
