Bobby is mobile

3-15-16

I am anxious for the cast to come off.

Dax had a lot of trouble last night with being really itchy. I am not too surprised since this is at about the same point the first cast starting becoming itchy. He also has been so active despite his ailment so I am betting the sweat has increased greatly. I am betting tonight it will be even worse what with him having practice. I will try to use the hair dryer again tonight because that seemed to work well last time.

We found a bike for Bobby last night. I was a little bummed at the lack of inventory, but luckily Walmart had what we were looking for. Not only did we find the right size (24”), he found a cool purple one which looks great. He was so happy riding it around a bit when we got home. It really is a nice bike, and not too expensive! What’s funny is the helmet was half the cost of the bike! Sheesh! But that’s ok. We got Dax his helmet, too since they had an awesome teal shiny one that he liked. Sadly, they didn’t have a bike he liked, but he wasn’t upset at all. I looked online this morning and think I found some good ones, so I will run them by him to see what he thinks. It helps that he can’t really ride it yet so he isn’t as anxious to get it. Plus, I think he knows he can’t kick a ball on a bike.

Sadly, Mrs. Arevelo was out yesterday so I didn’t get Bobby’s Spring pictures yet, but at least I got Dax’s. I am always tempted to buy them, but really, it isn’t necessary since I can just scan them in. Dax looks good, and I am actually not upset about his cast showing since it marks a time in his life. Just as I will be able to see Bobby’s retainer, it shows them both growing up, which is of course bitter-sweet.

I have Bobby’s parent teacher conference on Thursday. I already know what to expect since really, it isn’t that he struggles. It is that he doesn’t care. The biggest issue is he needs to read more and do things like the Accelerated Reader tests. He does read slow, but I honestly believe it isn’t that he comprehends slow, it is that he is easily distracted when reading. It is frustrating, especially when I am such an avid reader, but I also understand the books are not video games, and it is tough for many kids. My biggest annoyance right now is that apparently he didn’t do a couple of homework things, and that is my fault for not pressing him more on days in which he claims he doesn’t have homework. It means I am now having to really lay down the law, which I know will mean tears. There already were some yesterday when both boys didn’t have as much time to play yesterday. Sadly, with science projects and soccer and slide shows and book reading, really, time isn’t always our friend. It comes down to the idea that they will probably have their bedtime pushed back a bit, which thankfully will not be an issue for me shortly since I am embracing my new hours (happening in 2 weeks) and I think it will be good to allow for not only free time, but getting them more in tune with chores and some time to read.

All of this also means I will need to come up with some assignments (if they don’t already have them) during Spring Break.
